The biggest question I get from parents and anyone needing to buy a present for a new baby is, why do babies love tag blankets? Why can’t they put them down and do I really need to buy one? Which I would say you do, there are so many benefits to them, read on to find out what they are.

What is a tag comforter or a taggie blanket?

There is a long list of names that the go to comforter and soother can be called; ‘blankie’, ‘comforter’, ‘tag comforter’, or plain old ‘taggie’. They all describe the same category of toy that is sold as the popular ‘taggie blanket.’ 

It’s a simplified and wonderful toy that is essentially a piece of material with ribbons or tags sewn around the edges that provide both sensory and cognitive stimulation to a baby and growing toddler, they can also be used as a comforter when your child becomes attached to their favourite baby taggy.

What is a taggie blanket used for?

The magical taggie is a toy designed to stimulate the senses by being a colourful playground of textures and shapes that babies and toddlers love to touch, suck and snuggle. A tag blanket is portable with the bonus of no sound! They are easily washable and can fit neatly into most pockets and small storage compartments of the essential baby or toddler bag. The comforters are made with either a soft plush on both sides or a 100% cotton and soft plush layers

Why do babies like tags on blankets?

Each layer adds a texture that your baby or toddler can feel, this opens a whole new world of discovery whilst improving and honing their fine motor skills with, it’s surprising how long these taggie toys can keep them occupied for. Taggie toys can quite easily last through their early years!

When to give baby comforter

You might have also seen baby taggie blankets with teething corners attached.  Or crinkle material in them to add another texture, these also double up as great teething soothers providing relief to tender gums when they are chewed and sucked, a valuable advantage of having an easily washable and quick drying toy at the ready.

Taggie blanket benefits

A two in one toy that doubles up as a security blanket and comforter! When your child’s taggie blanket is held often enough, it can miraculously become their go to security blanket.  Helping them to drift off to sleep whilst stroking and holding them or can equally calm them during the day, think of the benefits of stroking a pet. 

Have you heard of the term ‘bonding squares’? This is where the mother wears the squares close to her body for several hours to gather her scent , then this is given back to the baby, so they smell their Mothers reassuring familiar scent. That technique can also work with taggie blankets. It helps make your baby feel safe when you can’t be there or need that all important toilet break.

A tag toy can be with your child and become something that they carry with them, it can become an object they are fond of that acts as a sense of security as they explore new environments.

Different shapes and sizes

Taggie blankets come in all sizes from small handheld size up to a blanket that can be used in a buggy or stroller. There is no right or wrong size to get, it all depends on the individual needs of your child. You might find it easier to have a smaller one you can transport around in your bag and keep a large one at home.

My  designs come with a cotton front, soft plush back, and colour coordinated ribbons tags around the edge. In the UK, all toys need to comply to The Toy Safety Directive. Rest assured you will be glad to hear we conform to those standards on our range of products, including our taggie blankets, baby taggie blanket, cuddle clouds and teething rings.

Please make sure that when you are purchasing from a seller that you check the safety standards are met and the product has been through the CE testing process.  In Craft Corner products have it displayed on the sewn in tag, or it can be on any packaging that comes with the product.
